Beyond Participation: Rethinking Partnerships in Support of Women’s Inclusion in Peace Processes

Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Peace Women Across the Globe and Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP)

This session will bring together mediation and peacebuilding practitioners from Geneva and Vienna for a practice-oriented exchange on  how peace processes can move beyond formal participation towards more meaningful and sustained inclusion of women. The session will explore how process design, mediation support, and partnerships among international, regional, and local actors shape women’s access to influence, local ownership, and the sustainability of inclusive peace efforts. It will focus in particular on the operational challenges of supporting women’s participation in a context of shrinking civic space, geopolitical strain, and funding constraints, and on the practical role that institutions, mediators, and civil society networks can play in creating space, access, and visibility for women peacebuilders. The discussion will also inform a future session planned for the Geneva Peace Forum in October 2026.
