Building Peace-Positive Finance Ecosystems

15 Oct 2026 CICG, Rue de Varembé 17, 1211 Genève — Plenary B Hybrid Panel
United Nations Capital Development Fund

Peace is increasingly understood not only as a public good, but also as an economic and investment imperative. Conflict affects markets, productivity, supply chains and long-term development, while peace creates the conditions for resilience, private sector growth, job creation and sustainable development. Recent global discussions, including the 2026 Peace Finance Forum, the World Bank Fragility Forum and the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, have highlighted the need to move beyond fragmented funding approaches and build a broader peace finance ecosystem connecting public, private and multilateral actors.

Peace-positive finance recognizes that financial flows are never neutral in fragile settings: they can reinforce exclusion and instability, or contribute to social cohesion, economic opportunity and resilience. This requires stronger risk-sharing mechanisms, investable pipelines, market infrastructure and practical tools that allow peace considerations to be integrated into investment, lending and policy decisions. The private sector, financial institutions, DFIs, IFIs and multilateral development banks all have an important role to play in advancing this agenda.

Geneva provides a unique platform for this conversation as a global hub for humanitarian action, sustainable finance, international development, trade and diplomacy. The session will explore how Geneva-based investors, financial institutions, international organizations, businesses and policymakers can work together to foster peace-positive financial ecosystems. It will also showcase practical examples, emerging frameworks and innovative financing mechanisms that help bridge the gap between peacebuilding policy and financial practice.

Through a moderated panel and interactive discussion, the event will aim to strengthen understanding of peace-positive finance, highlight the roles of different financial and development actors, and identify concrete opportunities for collaboration. By connecting the peacebuilding and finance communities, the session will contribute to positioning Geneva as a key hub for advancing the global peace finance agenda and supporting investment approaches that strengthen stability, resilience and sustainable peace.
